I'm currently using an Dell Inspiron 8600 (old school laptop), and my two USB 2.0 ports just aren't cutting it. I decided to order the Vantec eSATA 2Port CardBus. It works, but I believe I'm belive limited by my internal drive (no huge surprise there).
Since I like doing tests, here's the results of transferring a single large file (4478.63 MB):
Laptop>USB2: 3:29.1 (21.42 MB/s)
USB2>Laptop: 3:00.3 (24.84 MB/s)
Laptop>eSata: 3:11.6 (23.38 MB/s)
eSata>Laptop: 2:50.8 (26.22 MB/s)
The results are hardly impressive, but I did gain a USB 2.0 port. Next time I'll do my homework.
